House Basement Construction
This project had many technical difficulties to ensure the stability of existing properties in very close proximity to three sides of the property, while constructing a new basement for a large residential home.
Specialist piling techniques were employed using silent piling rig with virtually no noise or vibration. The new basement construction was close to the boundary of the property to maximise its size, therefore the working space was also very limited.
Design and planning of the temporary works was critical to ensure that any risk of movement or collapse of the adjacent properties was removed and to ensure the likelihood of any ground movement was kept below an acceptable level.
The basement construction involved excavations to around 5m deep with around 2,000T of excavated material removed, reinforced concrete base and walls, steelwork support structure, precast concrete slabs and stairs, drainage, service installation, brick and stone work, screed, garage floor slab, external works.
One of the key factors on the project was a close working relationship with architects, engineers and specialist waterproofing contractor.
As the works was carried out in a residential area, the works had to be carried out with minimal noise and disruption to the neighbouring properties.
