Annfield Burn Footbridge Replacement, Dalmellington, Ayr
As part of measures to extend the network of cycle tracks around Ayr the existing footbridge over the Annfield Burn was to be replaced, the existing footbridge being too narrow to accommodate cyclists with sub-standard parapet height.
The works involved the removal of the existing footbridge and supply and installation of a new proprietary steel Vierendeel Truss bridge, installed on widened and strengthened abutment seatings. The replacement bridge was designed by the contractor to a specification supplied by the client. The bridge was delivered to site fully painted with a factory applied anti-slip coating on the steel deck, the approach paths were widened and resurfaced and new pedestrian guardrails installed.
The works were completed in March 2009 at a cost of £22,460.
